Coaching

Why Coaching?

Coaching focuses on the present and on the future with an emphasis on the development of insight and the acquisition of skills.  It differs from therapy and counselling as people who go into coaching have the resources they need to make progress towards their targets.  It does not focus on psychological disturbance or deal with personality issues.  Sessions can vary in length.  The rigid timing of most therapy does not apply to coaching.

You are likely to want to engage in coaching if:

  • you are concerned with developing solutions and you are not problem-focused;
  • you want to engage with a professional on the basis of a collaborative venture;
  • you want a flexible but systematic and structured way of working;
  • you enjoy challenges and want to develop greater understanding;
  • you want to be empowered so that you can develop solutions yourself;
  • you value an evidence-based approach underpinned by research.

You are unlikely to choose coaching if:

  • you have problems that you cannot specify;
  • your goals seem unrealistic;
  • you have a severe acute psychiatric illness;
  • you have critically low self-esteem and lack of confidence;
  • your problems reflect long-standing personal difficulties.

We are Coaching Psychologists who work with you to enhance your effectiveness by:

  • coaching you to develop skills in identifying the real issues that cause difficulties;
  • coaching you to develop skills to devise a strategy to resolve them;
  • fostering independence rather than increasing dependency on professionals;
  • coaching in a time-efficient and cost-effective manner;
  • coaching validated by published, peer-reviewed research;
  • retaining confidentiality and treating you with respect.

How do we go about coaching?
We are not limited to a one size fits all approach to coaching, instead we have an eclectic approach, choosing the model that best fits the setting.  All our coaching models are time-efficient and cost-effective.  We collaborate with clients to formulate goals and decide on the model to be employed. We then coach clients to reach their goals and maintain them.

We work in accordance with the Codes of Ethics of the British Psychological Society and the International Society for Coaching Psychology.

We are able to offer coaching, individually or in groups, for a variety of purposes:
